Since the telephone system changed in Nov, 2002, all domestic phone numbers in Greece are ten digits long. The full number must be dialled no matter where you are calling from.

Post

Post boxes and Post Office signs are bright yellow. Post Office hours are usually 07h30-14h00 Mon-Fri.

The main post office can be found at Mitropoleos, Syntagma, Tel: +30 210-323-7573 and is open Mon-Fri 07h30-14h30.

Poste Restante is available at most post offices. You will need to show a passport on collection.

It takes up to five days for mail to reach Europe. Sending postcards within Europe costs from EUR0.49 to send. To send letters and postcards outside Europe costs from EUR0.65.

Do not seal any parcels that need to be sent abroad as they will have to be inspected before they are sent.

Internet

Amid the relics of an ancient world Athens is a modern forward looking city, and you should have no problem finding Internet access in the larger hotels, public buildings and Internet cafés. The latter can vary somewhat in the quality of the terminals and in the reliability of the connection.

Media

Newspapers
There are 18 daily newspapers in Athens including Ta Nea, Eleftherotypia and Eleftheros Typos. The English-language Athens News is published weekly on Friday, and there is a local insert in the English-language International Herald Tribune, published daily except Sunday. The Hellenic Times is a weekly publication in English. Major international newspapers are also available in Athens.

Entertainment guide
Athens Guide is published bimonthly and provides listings, in Greek and English, of restaurants and places of interest in Athens.
